REFASHIONISTAS IN JUNE 09

REFASHIONISTAS IN JUNE

Well once again we had a another very successful and dare I say
productive night at sista Julieta's warm and cosy abode. The girls
were quick to get underway this month with many projects on the go.
Kezita did some mending of young Thomas' jeans. She even worked a
little fancy stitch on them and he ended up wiht a gorgeous T on
his bum. Kezita became weary and left a little early preparing for
a weekend at work. We appreciate the effort it takes to get out
before a working weekend Kezita, hope it wasn't too busy and no
ferrets.
Judita came with a great piece, branching out from the traditional
sewing, crafting tasks and moving into woodworking. Its wonderful
to see such variations in the projects isn't it?? Judita created a
delightful little monkey in reds and greens that is to become
thier house number. How devine, we all fell in,ove with the little
fella. Judita worked solidly on this project for the whole night
and is just about up to the cutting out I think. Well done Judita!
We welcomed lovely luscious Laurita with her dashing smile and
thoughtful words. We learned that Laurita is extrememly well
comnnected and may in fact know everyone in the world. Laurita was
working on a great little flower brooch from felt and fabric...not
to mention the repair to the warm wooly vintage op shop coat.
Julieta, our hostess with the mostess, sat at her machine for much
of the night peering down through her glasses and working away on
those very special smocks, that will be far too cute to get
dirty..I think 1.5 were completed...only 18.5 to go...
Bellita patiently worked on her cardigan project carried over from
last month. The feedback recieved was unanimously positive and
most in favour of the blue ribbon down the middle of the frill. We
all look forward to Bellita modelling this refashioned
hand-me-down when it is complete.
and I was doing lots of little jobs, mending, altering,
refashioing a pillow case into a hot water bottle (which Pete is
very happy with by the way.)
I also sat and mended my jeans pocket while I wore them...not very
neat but functional.

so thats it...
the nibbles were incredibly naughty, as was the discussion at
times. There was much laughter and rich connections being made. As
we sat by the warm fire on such a cold night I felt the esssense
of days of old. Many years ago the local women would gather
regularly to do their 'work' and chat and laugh. This I believe is
what we are aspiring to, so in my opinion the night was a complete
success..

Judita has mentioned fortnightly meetings might be the go. I am in
favour but I know there were others who weren't sure...what shall
we do sistas..
the date for the next fortnightly meeting would be the 26th
June????????????? or we could do the monthly thing and set the
date for 11th july????????????/
what to do, what to do

love you all

REFASHIONISTAS INAUGRAL NIGHT A report by sister-sassista

REFASHIONISTAS INAUGRAL NIGHT
A report by sister-sassista

Well girls,
we had a lovely Inaugral Refashionista night even though we were low in numbers. (hope you're feeling better Jude.) Thanks very much to Kezistas for her kind offer to host at hers at the last minute and a thankyou also goes out to Neilista for tidying up and making teas. Although there was constant natter throughout the night, the girls were still productive. Kezista worked slowly but surely on her long time scarf project which has proven her ability to be patient and persitant..(even if its the wrong colors).
Belista was also in attendance and working away on a refashioned family heirloom. Being remodelled to give her a neck a look in...and thanks Bellista for the chocies even though they were stale (any chocolate is good chocolate I say.)
As for myself..well I refashioned a dress to become a 20's -esq dress good enough for a fancy dress night the following night. (fine dress...shit night..ah well. 20s night anyone??) I also completed 2 repairs on shirts and started a felted steiner toy dolphin. (rather productive really. But I did stick to the hand sewing..better the devil you know!!)
Overall a very successful first night. I would like to report that sassista (me) arrived in a fine pair of tracky dacks and an equally fine hooded windcheater. I was going to bring along my slippers but sadly forgot. I was most pleased to be refashioning in such comfort and would like to put forward that tracksuits, pjs or any other comfortabkle attire be the dress code of choice for a group such as ours.
There has also been interest in the group from outside women so perhaps we can discuss attendace matters at the next gathering.
Which by the way Judeista would be when????

Gathering #3 June 09

Gathering #3

At sista Judita’s

Ah yes..it was yet another gathering full of warmth, mirth and stitching.

It seems that each time we get together there is at least one sister who is far too tired after the week to stitch but is happy to sit contentedly and watch the others do their thing. Last time it was Kezzitas turn..this week is was Juditas turn. Judita did though, in her usual form, entertain and amuse us. As well as serving me a fine cup of tea.( Unfortunately the other girls were forgotten.) .. Judita shared some extremely spunky aprons she has happened upon at our favourite store. Bellita modelled hers and the colors and design were just right. Jude also modelled a hand-me-down from aunty someone and showed how she can look hot even in jeans, t-shirt and aunty someone’s old black apron. She wasn’t productive but she was still hot. She spoke briefly about her last project and that there has been discussions in the crown rd household about the type of jigsaw which should be used to cut out our dear monkey friend and even by whom. (a power play perhaps??) Judita remains quietly confident that she can do the job. I say ‘go for it sister”.

Bellita, well no surprises there…working away quite solidly on her mothers refashioned cardi. (again) Which she told me was only going to be worn around the house. Obviously it will be far too fine for a house coat so she has agreed to make it a garment worn to Refash. PERFECT. We’ll look forward to it Bellita. Oh and love the way the braide changes pattern, very exciting.

Lovely Lazzita (as we have now officially decided upon), was very productive and varied in her project choice. I may not even remember all she completed, she mended a bra, and a beautiful silk skirt which may need working on again at some time. We have suggested it could be a wearable instillation refashion piece. Continually fraying and continually changing. Very innovative.

Lazzita then surprised us all by pulling out the most glorious fabric and preceding to cover a canvas with it. I believe with the intention of making a pair.

I myself worked on yet another ..er…unusual project. I had decided to ‘steiner-fy’ Esther’s backpack by sewing a crotched flower over winnie the pooh. I thought it looked quite good but Esther’s still unsure. I then sewed up some pockets in a well loved coat, which is great because I have had it for several years with no pockets. Unfortunately I had not brought anything else but still had the itch to stitch so quietly decorated my sewing basket. (which may be another ongoing project)

I’d also like to mention Sir Scott who was strumming away in another room. Although he declined the invite to serenade the group it was lovely to listen to from a far. There were murmurings of a boy band forming and jamming every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month but personally I can’t see it happening

Dexita also joined the gathering and was showing off in his doggy coat until Scott dragged him away to keep him company. (or because he was told to)

Of course Kerrita and Julitta were sorely missed but were present in spirit.

So all in all another very warm and delicious girly night….

I think we need to continue discussions around membership and possible guest appearances. We are also interested in inviting a crochet-er in to share their expertise. Bellita has another project in mind that will take far longer than this cardigan shes on believe me.

Our next gathering is scheduled for July 10th..and I am happy to offer my humble abode (3 Holt Crt Mordi) as the venue.

Till then..Refash sisters RULE

With love

refash 24th July

Well a lovely gathering at my own home this month and what a delight it was to be able to host.

For the most part we were, Sassita, Kezita, Belllita and Lazitta…only later to be joined in a surprise visit by dear Judita and Julieta dropping by after life drawing. How divine.

So this week Kezita was the first to arrive and feeling rather lost as to what to refash. I had mentioned to her earlier in the day that I had loads of mending. So in her usual generous and giving way she was intending in doing some of my mending for me. Kezita proceeded then to unpack the sewing materials her mother had passed on to her and in it found a wonderful container of small multi-colored buttons. Using the new found materials as inspiration Kezita decided to make a button necklace. Kezita worked on this for most of the night and it's coming up great. But will need more work as it needs the other side buttoned so it may be a project to be carried over. Kezita also provided Lazzita with invaluable input just before her early departure (due to an upcoming weekend full of work) Lazzita had begun working on a new project ..a mobile for a new baby to come. It was made from the fabric from our previous gathering. A flower, a heart and a fish. After requesting feedback on the shapes and designs, Kezzita suggested modification to make the bird look a little more birdlike and a little less fish/chick-esque. The newly modelled head and beak did indeed birdify the final piece and Lazzita was rather pleased I believe. On her exit Kezzita provided Lazzita with the perfect yellow felt to make the beak. Lets hope we get to see the final product. Before this mobile Lazzita was working on a prayer flag for above mentioned soon to be born babe.

Unfortunately the flags weren't able to be made as the markers were not so great on the fabric ..making the LOVE, PEACE and other such inspiring words bleed into the fabric.. So Lazzita wisely set the flags aside for another night and started on her mobile.

Belita arrived without wearing her newly refashed cardi from the last few gatherings. She has apparently worn it to school drop off though which is great. Bellita was working on a few projects but the one that stands out to me was the necklace re-threading. I particularly enjoyed the story that went along with it. Ie/ drinking, home, hubby asleep, stuck in necklace, cut self out…thus in need of rethreading. Bellita shared the history of the individual pieces that were to be threaded on. At the end of the rearranging Bellita decided she needed to go home and couldn’t thread on the night. She then drew a picture of her design and will rethread soon. Lets hope she can get out of it this time….otherwise she might be rethreading each fortnight.

As I’ve already mentioned I was mostly mending and altering. Taking down the hem of Mollys jeans as shes grown so fast, taking off a sucky purple bow that was on the fron of a topt. After taking off the bow and making a hole in the fabric I decided to cover it up with a button…oh how I love buttons. Red button on purple top was suggested by our in-house color consultant and it looks great (she wore it today)

I also modelled a new old dress I picked up at the op shop. The sistas seem to agree it had potential and some good suggestions were made for improvements..shortening the sleeves..(yes Kezita it looks much better..I really should be more open to suggestions) as well as asweeping neckline...(just like poison ivy..see profile)..
A special thanks to Marjorie (mums friend) who crotched the tea pot holder which kept our tea warm and ready for seconds. Lazzita I have passed on your request for a beanie of the same pattern. Am now waiting to hear back from Marj.
so thats it in a nut shell..
unitl we meet again
yours
Sassita
