LITTLE SHOP OF 100% handmade in Melbourne

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know of a shop I heard of when I was at the Camberwell market a few weeks ago. The girl who makes the scrabble tile jewellery has a shop that sells handmade stuff from over 20 artists. All items are under $50 and other artists are welcome to sell their wares from this shop on consignment. I haven't been there yet myself but I hope to. So if you are interested here are the details;

preparing for our dinner

Many of us having been prepping up for the upcoming refash and partners dinner at Juliettas.
Bellita has been op shopping on Juditas and my behalf…the sacrifices we make in the name of friendship eh Beliita?? I hope it didn’t hurt too much we know how much you hate op shopping. Looking forward to the big event, which I anticipate will involve more alcohol than our refash gatherings

REFASH AUGUST 14TH

Well it was our first Refash at Bellitas home and how lovely it was…as usual. Lazitta and I started with a tour of the almost renovated bathroom and were suitable impressed. Judita and Julietta arrived soon after. Julietta on her bike no less!! Unfortunately sweet Kezzita was busy ‘at it' at home and preparing for another weekend of work.
The night had a very ‘creative flavour’ I thought. There was much discussion around projects we knew of and ideas we still have. God they’re endless aren’t they?? We spoke a lot about our shared passion for op shopping and refashioning in general. I myself am still seriously contemplating doing an op shoppers guide as I see myself as somewhat of an expert. But as was pointed out to me by one of the sistas…probably Judita, do we really want everyone else to get as good as us and take away those bargains..hhmmm… no! But everytime I’m in there, which is rather frequently (7x this week), I have ideas for the book. Perhaps I should just write it for the sistas…but hey already know it.

Dapper Scott..(as I affectionately call him) arrived home early in the evening and was pushed out into the kitchen and study area..sorry Dapper Scott. Although he wasn’t visibly present his presence was felt and now he has some idea of what goes on at Refash.
Jude started off by showing us the curtain fabrics..(see photos) and proceeded to iron them. She looks fine behind an ironing board too…is there anywhere she doesn’t look fine??? After the ironing I think Jude felt the project was too big for that particular night so she moved on to a simpler and perhaps more pleasurable project…puppet mending. There was also some pants mending I think and a somewhat feeble attempt at a pompom.

Julietta was quiet but productive. And times looking almost meditative as she slowly unpicked and rehemmed her sons trousers whilst peering ‘sexily’ over those glasses of hers. A bit of quiet crafting can go along way in lifting a mood sometimes. Julietta also confirmed some very important knowledge we read in Bellitas Etiquette book she shared. Milk should be poured before the tea. FANCY. Now Julietta gained this knowledge through her extensive Brownies training many years ago..where she was tutored and indeed tested on tea etiquette by an old granny who knows these things. In fact she has the homemakers badge to prove it. Julietta concluded her night with some sketching which she seemed to do with such ease and an air of contentment.

Our hostess with the mostess, Bellita, was on fire!!!! She had her sewing table all prepared with her machine ready to go. She also had the snack table ready to go as well as some lovely refash-ish books for browsing, which was lovely thanks Bellita. How thoughtful.
So Bellita did some real refashioning this week. She transformed a smocky looking top made of wonderful fabric into a very cute and fitted top that looked completely different with a few nips and tucks. ..(see photos). She also refashed a dress she’d found op shop shopping by sewing up the wrap around tie hole that was far too big. GREAT WORK BELLITA.

Lazzita looked fab in her hat that was apparently concealing not so pretty hair. I loved the hat either way. Laz showed us the prayer flags she started last gathering in their finished state and wow..they looked great..(see photos). She mended a well loved toy, read a few books from Bellita for browsing and refashed a necklace. Which I personally didn’t see the end result of so not sure where Lazzita got with that. From memory she crashed and burned quite quickly. Still by then it was late. Time seems to go very very quickly at refash.

I worked on another weaving which will be a gift to Kezzita. I got all the weaving down and now need to glue it down and make the border. I was pleased with the outcome.

I really love the way I feel so inspired and supported by the sistas. And for me the night just flows in this mysterious, creative and harmonious way. Very sacred, very tribal and very special. Till we meet again sistas

oh..and sorry the dates and gatherings are all in the wrong order but near enough is good enough for a gal like me...

to market to market

Hey Sistas,
I was thinking of you all today during my trip to the camberwell markets. Oh what fun. I found a few new tops, a bag of beautiful buttons, fleece for spinning/doll making, funky fabrics, a new button ring (yes ANOTHER) and a scrabble tile ring. I decided that I would have enjoyed my morning so much more if I was there with my sisters instead of my hungry daughters...
SO
I think Its time to plan an refash excursion..
to market to market..
whos in???? and when will we go????
